Energizing Breathing Meditation
We can refresh our energy any time of the day with a quick breathing exercise:
- Find a comfortable position for your meditation, close or relax your eyes, and begin to breathe mindfully. Do nothing but enjoy breathing for a few moments.
- Relax any stress or tension you’re holding in your body. Inhale and exhale as you release from your worries. Be in this moment with your breath.
- Now, energize your body by breathing in slowly and deeply, then exhale quickly and somewhat forcefully. Please don’t strain or hurt yourself when exhaling, but use your diaphragm, lungs, and a controlled mouth to blow out a full lungful of air in a nice, concise short breath. If you’re counting during your meditation, a great energizing ratio is inhaling for 6 counts and exhaling for 2 counts.
- On your in-breath, breathe in a sense of vitality and alertness. On your out-breath, release from dullness and distraction. Inhale clarity, then exhale while letting go of any tiredness. Stretch your spine tall and breathe with your belly to inhale slowly and exhale quickly.
- Continue to breathe in strong and refreshing energy until you feel more alert and energized. Breathing like this oxygenates your system, preparing you physically and mentally for whatever you face next.
- Whenever ready, return your breathing to a normal rate and allow yourself to settle. This meditation can cause feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness, and if this causes too much discomfort, feel free to stop at any time during the exercise.
The more we allow our mind to rest in stillness, the more we’ll minimize any sleepiness we may have from lack of proper sleep or everyday stresses. Practice meditation for 15 minutes every day to see incredible results in focus, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
“You often feel tired, not because you’ve done too much, but because you’ve done too little of what sparks a light in you.” - Unknown

Deepen Your Understanding: A significant source of energy depletion is stress. When we feel anxious, scared, angry, worried, jealous, impatient, or any other emotion that feels negative, our body releases stress hormones cortisol and epinephrine, which can be very detrimental to our memory, state of mind, physical health, and overall vitality. If you're feeling tired or foggy headed, check in with your stress levels.
