Mindfulness Practice: Drinking Water Mindfully
|
We can invite mindfulness to any activity. A great way to bring a sense of calmness into your day is to be mindful of the action of drinking water. Instead of sipping the water mindlessly or quickly chugging it down, take time to be fully aware of the experience. Look at the glass full of water, noticing the color and texture of the cup or container. Does the light in the room reflect off the water? Does the glass create a shadow? As you pick up the glass of water, be aware of the weight of the glass and the movement of your hand traveling towards your mouth. Feel your lips part, and tune into the temperature and density of the liquid as you begin to drink. Explore the taste of the water. Observe the sensations of swallowing the water, following it down your throat and feeling it in your belly. If you notice your mind wandering off anytime during this exercise, consciously return your attention back to the process of drinking the water.
