Being Here

Goodness in the Present Moment

When we connect with the present moment, we enter a realm where beauty, joy, compassion, creativity, and inner peace are more easily accessible.
When we’re able to fully observe the abundance in each unique moment, we feel happy.

Enjoying the Present Moment

When we practice mindfulness regularly, our sense of awareness will strengthen into a palpable feeling that we can carry with us. When we’ve developed our mindfulness, we can habitually tune into our inner and outer reality to embolden our connection to the present moment. We can find cues throughout the day to bring our attention back to our body and present surroundings. We can use this habit to energize and nourish ourselves. It’s easy to feel like our over-scheduled days have no time for self care, but with mindfulness, we can find peace and refreshment in our breathing, our walking, and in our posture. Every activity can be done mindfully, so that gives us the amazing power to destress and rejuvenate simply by breathing in fresh oxygen and exhaling any tension we notice we’ve accumulated. Anytime you remember to inhale mindfully, also bring your shoulders down away from your ears and relax your jaw and hands. We can touch peace in the present moment. We can touch wisdom, determination, inclusivity, appreciation, and happiness in the present moment. All we need do to be present is to stay connected to some part of our physical experience. Breathing, walking, touching, looking - there’s always some sensation we can be mindful of.
Time spent mindfully will give us a new confidence from being steadily invested and engaged in the here and now.

Peace in the Present Moment

Our memories from the past and our fantasies of the future can distract us from the perfection and reality of this moment, now. Thinking of times other than now can make us feel a variety of ways, ranging from inspired and grateful to uneasy or sad. We can root ourselves in the present moment by pausing, breathing, and connecting with our senses while we observe our surroundings. When we practice radically accepting the moment we’re in, we can soothe and break down tough anxiety or fear. We can take refuge in the present moment. When we’re present, we can enjoy a rich energy of peacefulness. We can live in this peacefulness by holding our attention on the present moment. When we stay connected to the details and reality around us, we can maintain good perspective and be nonreactive to doubts, insecurities, and other intrusive negative thoughts.

Re-Center with Mindfulness

With mindfulness, re-centering is possible at any moment. We can connect to our breath, our physical form, and our surroundings to stay centered through any challenges we may face. When our full attention is on the present moment, we have less room in our mind for our worries, fears, and judgements. Brushing our teeth, cleaning our house, reading a book — all these things become opportunities to experience deep gratitude when we’re fully present with them. When we’re mindful, we feel grateful for having teeth to brush, for having a shelter to tidy, and for having eyes to interpret our amazing world with. Take a few moments today to find the opportunity to re-center with full, focused awareness of your present moment experience.

Connecting to Our Presence

To build a solid mindfulness practice, we must become aware of our presence in each moment. Are we present in the here and now, or are we lost in our thoughts and feelings? Is our presence confident, calm, restless, or uneasy? When we’re in contact with the present moment, our presence is very powerful. We can strengthen our connection with the present moment and protect ourselves by being aware of how our presence changes throughout the day. Being present in all our moments of fulfillment, misfortune, routine, and everything in-between will open endless opportunities for inspiration and appreciation.

Presence in Stillness

When we become aware of ourselves and our surroundings, we’re strengthening our presence. Being present is all that’s necessary to access the beauty, wonder, and majesty of all that surrounds us. To see these things and to clarify and bolden our presence, our mind needs to be still. We have to detach from the obsessions, worries, and thoughts of any time other than right now. We can be still in the present moment, to offer peace in place of stress. Being still connects us with our presence. We can touch an incredible energy deep inside us when we pause for a moment and just enjoy being still.

Our inner essence is revealed when we dwell in the present moment. Our connection with this world and the universe is available in the present moment. So many incredible experiences await, in the present moment.

Today is a Celebration!

Have a good day today! This is not just a wish, but a daily practice.
We have all sorts of special days: our birth day, Mother’s Day, Father’s day, Independence Day, Earth Day, even National Elephant Appreciation Day (September 22nd). It’s a great practice to celebrate each day like it’s its own holiday: Today’s Day! When we fully rejoice in Today’s Day, we don’t have to think about yesterday, or dwell in what will happen tomorrow. We can find so much to celebrate in each day! The green of the trees, the eyes of a loved one, even the colors in the clothes we choose to wear. When we value each day like a holiday, we dress up, put our best self forward, and put our attention on the people and conditions around us. Hopefully, everyone has a memory of a celebration like Christmas or a special birthday that inspired great joy and wonder in them as a child. When we live happily in the present moment, we will find the same fun, inspiration, and joy that we experienced when we were younger.

Today is a day worth celebrating. Today is the best day! This doesn’t mean that yesterday isn’t meaningful, but yesterday has already past, so the most important time for us is here this moment, now. Today is a wonderful day when we celebrate it as so. When we are mindful, when we enjoy our breathing, then our enjoyment extends to our other activities, and our enjoyment can infuse our entire day with positivity. We begin Today’s Day by breathing mindfully, by connecting to the present moment and smiling. This is peacefulness. This is contentedness. Because it is a celebration today, we pay attention to what we drink, what we eat, how we walk, and we enjoy living deeply in the present moment.
Let yourself get excited about the wonder awaiting you in each day. What fun activities are best suited for your celebration of today?
