Getting Back on Track
Have you had a bad day? A challenging couple of weeks?
Have you been drifting away from the principles and beliefs you hold dear? It’s perfectly fine. It happens to all of us.
No matter what unfair challenges have happened lately, no matter how disappointingly we may have acted, the fact is that our principles remain unchanged. We can return to them at any moment. What happened yesterday, that thing that happened four years ago— it is the past. We can refresh on our principles and begin respecting them at any moment.
Why not do it right now?

Investigating Our Actions
Sometimes we act on autopilot. It can be challenging to realize we’re quickly rushing through our day, to notice we’re not giving our full attention to our tasks, or to find our way away from habits and commitments that no longer serve us. In any moment, we can call upon our energy of mindfulness to help us pause and observe our present situation. We can also set aside time specifically to practice slowing down. This dedicated pause will give us space to settle our feelings so we may see more clearly. With this calm state of mind, we can reflect on our life and identify where we’re investing our time/energy each day.
What elements of your life bring you joy? Are there any conditions that may be currently out of alignment with your core values?

What's Being Reinforced?
Our brain is an amazing organ! The brain is constantly sensing, processing, integrating, and coordinating both internal and external information. Our perspective and beliefs are shaped by many things, including our environment, our upbringing, our consumption, our thoughts, and our feelings. Over time, our brain physically changes in response to stimuli, our mental connections and pathways adapting and evolving to cope with our circumstances. This neuroplasticity is what allows us to learn new skills and think creatively. This inherent adaptability is something we can use to our advantage.
We can ask ourselves, “What am I training?” throughout the day. Are we strengthening our focus? Or are we shortening our attention span with distractions? Are we improving our tolerance for stress? Or are we contributing more negativity to stressful situations? We cultivate awareness by looking into our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings to see what qualities we’re giving our attention to. We can have more control over our self-development when we intentionally train our mind to reinforce positive habits and detach from our less desirable ones. What qualities do you want to train in yourself?
